Garden flowers are like hearts. They can be beautiful, or make your head hurt. They balance the Eco system, but they can also break with the slightest touch of a shoe.
That's what Sydney thought as she sat cross-legged, leaning back on her hands. She stared at the sky and wondered just what the world would be like if there weren't flowers. Or bees. Or clouds. She decided everything would die. "Maybe The Bastard would die off first." She said out loud. The Bastard, as she thought of him, was the man her mother was probably going to marry. And he was also the reason she was in here. "No," Sydney said then. "I'm not lucky enough for that." She decided. But what is luck, if not coincidence? Sydney wondered. Does luck exist? Or is that what people say when something goes right in their life? 'It was luck.'... Sydney sighed heavily. Her life, ever since she had been found after acting in self-defense and nearly killing her mother's fiancee, seemed to be crashing down around her. The walls that had once seemed so sturdy were no crumbling. The roof was slowly sagging, threatening to collapse on top of her. Sydney looked at her hands, then at a flower. She wondered if there was some sort of way she could kill herself. Or at least injure herself? Maybe her mom would then regret putting her in here. Sydney looked over at a flower that was sprouting out of the ground a few feet away. She started to crawl over to it, then saw a bee hovering a few inches above it. She hated bees. She was allergic to them. Then again... She crawled over to the flower and swatted at the bee. It buzzed angrily and went back to the flower. Syd hit at it again and it flew a few feet above the flower, buzzed again, and stung her on the wrist. Sydney didn't even wince. She had felt pain that was so much higher on the scale then this, that it was ridiculous seeming. She watched the bee drop to the ground dead; having stung her, it's life was now over. Sydney rested her wrist on her knee and watched it as it started to swell a little. Now this, this hurts. She thought, as she gingerly touched her wrist with a finger from her other hand. Her throat, as it always did when she got stung by a bee, was slowly closing. She lay back in the grass, feeling suddenly dizzy. Death from a bee sting. How odd... Wonder how often that happens? Sydney thought. Her breathing then stopped; her throat had closed and it was impossible to breathe. At first, she started to panic, but then she pushed it away and watched the sky slowly turn black, and then disappear into a deep darkness as she passed out.

Liam walked past the gardens, admiring the flowers, when he saw a girl lying on the grass. His eyes widened and he raced over to her as fast as his thin frame could carry him. When he finally reached her, he shook her gently. "Hey, are you okay? HEY!" When the girl didn't wake up he shook her harder. Liam picked her up into a sitting position. He waved a small bottle of smelling salts under her nose, hoping to wake her up. He had learned how to do this when his friends had passed out from drugs or from drinking. He had to wake her up. Or do something...

Sydney fought to regain consciousness, to breathe... Nothing. She forced her eyes open. Someone was holding her up... A guy. She put her hand, the one that had not been stung, on her throat. I can't breathe. she mouthed desperately. She felt the blackness closing in, and she suddenly couldn't remember why she had done this in the first place. Was she going to die now? Then she passed out again, her body, so light at 69 lbs that it made no difference, really, slumping against Liam. Sydney, even in deep unconsciousness sort of like a coma, but not that serious, knew that if she went much longer without breathing, she would die. Her lungs strained; they needed to fill with air, to send oxygen into her blood stream so it would be carried through her body. Syd's face, appearing almost as though she was sleeping, minus the breathing, was pale as a sheet.

Liam's mind went numb. Damn it, damn it, damn it! he muttered angrily. This girl was choking. Or dying at least. He tried to wrack his brain to remember what his friend Matt had told him about CPR. He was pretty sure it was two breaths and 30 chest pushes or whatever the h*ll they were called.
Even though he was extremely nervous, Liam tilted the girl's head back and put his lips against hers, breathing air into her lungs. He repeated this again and began pressing against her upper chest. After he did this about thirty times, he gave her two more breaths. Liam hoped this would work. He had lost too many people in his life. He didn't want another person to die when he could have done something. Not again.

Sydney felt air being forced into her lunges. She felt as though she was drifting in blackness, though she knew she was on the verge of waking up. Her wrist started to throb with pain, a beacon in the dark unconsciousness. It seemed to draw her closer and closer, and then she awoke, gasping slightly as air rushed into her lunges faster than she had anticipated. She looked at Liam for a second. "I... thank you... Bee sting and..." She stopped, examined her wrist for a moment, then looked back at Liam. "I'm Sydney... Uhm, who are you?" She asked.

Liam started breathing just as much as Sydney did. He ran a hand through his hair, relieved that this girl hadn't died. "Hey Sydney. The name's Liam." he said, sitting down on the grass, crosslegged.
Liam silently looked at Sydney for a minute. There was one question that kept going through his head and he decided to voice it. "Um... Sydney... can you tell me why I found you dying out here?" he asked. He didn't want it to have come out mean. He just wanted the truth.

Sydney glanced at him. She didn't think it had sounded mean; for god's sake, the guy had just saved her life. She thought for a moment. "A bee stung me." She said finally. "Deathly allergic, as you probably know by now..." She rubbed her wrist, which was throbbing. She glanced down it. It was swollen still, but the swelling had gone down a little. She touched it gingerly, winced, and rested her hands on her knees, careful not to touch her knee with her wrist. Sydney glanced at Liam for a moment, feeling she should say something else but couldn't really think of anything. She still felt woozy, but it was not as bad as it could be.
