Suki gazed at the Burn Wall, reading all of the rumours and quotes and poems, written or scratched into the wall. Every bit of writing told stories. A.K plus L.C equals ♥. In most cases, the things written on the wall weren't all that nice. Now, Suki has lived on the streets for most of her life, and she is very proud of her vocabulary. But some of the cuss words written on this wall made even her blush. Suki couldn't picture herself writing something like that. She wasn't like that at all. If she had a beef with someone, she did something about it. More often than not, that person would end up in the hospital with a broken nose. You would never catch Suki writing 'S.H had better watch her back' on something like that Burn Wall.

Instead, she decided to add one of her own sketches to the wall. She held a pencil in one hand, and she moved closer to the wall to press the lead tip against the surface. Suki paused for a moment, contemplating what to draw, before she began, dragging the tip across the wall, pressing hard to leave dark marks behind. She trained her gaze carefully on the drawing, hand held steady and tongue pressing against her lip rings in concentration. Suki was an okay artist. She wasn't exactly proud of it. Art couldn't save you in this world. Only you could save yourself. Die young, and save yourself. But darling, only the good die young. Suki knew she was still paying for her sins. She added a crucifix against the chest of the anime figure she had drawn. Sometimes, she felt like running away. But there was never a place to hide.

Devon grimaced, plucking at her shirt. She had just spent the afternoon in the garden. Not by choice of course. She wasn’t exactly a nature person. Far from it, actually. Now, she smelled like dirt, and her knees were hurting. Yeah, she’d much rather be languishing away from boredom.

Slowing, she cocked her head at the much graffiti-ed wall. “Right.” She mumbled, she had heard whispers about this particular wall. It was notorious. Apparently, if your name ended up on it there was a good chance someone was gunning for you. Devon rolled her eyes. “Pathetic.” She didn’t believe in giving her enemies warning. Sure, it wasn’t very sporting, but since when did she care about fair?

“Anything good?” She asked the girl who was drawing. “Any creative threats involving disembowelment and toothpicks?” She laughed, the image her words made in her head giving her a slight case of the giggles.

Devon moved to the opposite wall, sliding down until she sat on the floor. Jeez, her knees were killing her. She felt like an old lady complaining about her joints. She picked at the dirt embedded under her nails as she waited for the girl to answer.

Suki kept her attention on the wall, not caring that she had her dishwashing duties that afternoon. She pulled one of her snakebites into her mouth, gazing at her picture. Her teachers had never been able to figure out why Suki couldn't apply herself to her work. The teachers at KJ had all said the same thing. 'You're a smart girl, Suki.' Yeah, sure, she was smart, all right, but she must've been pretty stupid to allow herself to be shipped off to that hellhole. But it was better than Applegate. Suki wondered what things would be like if she had just applied herself to her work a little more. Maybe put a little more effort into her studies, ne? Perhaps then Suki wouldn't be stuck here, drawing on the walls for entertainment and talking to shadows.

A voice coming from behind startled her. It wasn't like Suki to allow herself to drift off like that. Usually she was more alert. She scolded herself. Just because she was in a prison didn't mean she was safe. At KJ, she wasn't safe. At Lunenburg, she wasn't safe. She was never safe. They said nobody wanted to hurt her, but still everybody tried. Suki drew in a slow breath before glancing over her shoulder at the intruder, a slender girl with a scarred face and a peculiar eyepatch. But Suki was never one to judge upon appearance. If she had any say in the matter, she would say this newcomer had a face with character. But Suki kept her face expressionless, although cracking a brief smile at the girl's second question.

She stepped out of the way, slipping the pencil into the back pocket of the drab grey jeans she wore. Why was everything in this damned place grey? Why not black? Or maybe orange. Suki looked good in orange. She glanced down at the white tanktop cladding her torso. At least she wasn't forced to shave her head or anything. On the streets, Suki had heard some horror stories from girls who had spent time in prison. Suki touched a hand to her tresses, possibly the only thing that made her stand out now that she was here. If they made her dye or cut her hair, that would possibly be the last blow. Suki wondered how much longer she would be able to survive under such conditions.

"No, just doodling," Suki answered, keeping her gaze on the girl. She seemed friendly enough. Maybe a little crazy, sure, but then again, who wasn't, in this place? And who was Suki to judge? She shook her duo-toned locks away from her face and took a step forward, a careful smile now perched upon her kissers. It was only polite.

"I'm Suki."

Devon twisted and turned from the waist up, trying to lessen the strain in her back muscles. She was sure as hell never gardening again. Let them lock her up in solitary or whatever. Consequences never really meant much to her, she never gave them any real thought. Which might account for her being in Applegate. All she had been thinking about that night was revenge. Was it worth it? Devon just regretted not being able to finish the job.

Giving Suki a friendly nod, she said, “Devon. How long you’ve been here?”

(( Arg, my muse is being difficult! >_<))

She raised a hand to her eyes, checking to make sure her eyeliner was still intact. She allowed her gaze to skim over the girl's figure, trying to figure out what kind of a girl she was. Y'see, that's what the problem was with Juvie. Juvie and these stupid uniforms. Everybody looked the same, and nobody had any individuality. The only thing Suki could tell about this girl was she had probably been hanging around in the garden. That, and she had been in a wicked fight a while ago. Suki glanced at the girl's face and wondered who had won.

"A few days," She answered carefully. She sat down on the ground across from the girl, not leaning against the Burn Wall as she didn't want to get her tanktop dirty. She sure as hell was not going to be running around clad entirely in grey. At least, until next laundry day. Suki glanced down at her tankto again, a smirk on her lips at her convict number emblazed on one side of the shirt. Possibly the one thing that the guards could use to tell them all apart. If it wouldn't get her into so much shit, Suki would probably have tried altering the numbers, just to give them a little spin.

"What are you in for?" Suki asked, looking back at Devon.
